According to the WHO Global Report on Trends in Prevalence of Tobacco Use 2000–2030 released by the World Health Organization (WHO), the global number of tobacco users has shown a gradual decline. In 2000, the global tobacco-using population stood at 1.362 billion, decreasing to 1.245 billion in 2022, representing a decline of 8.59%. Preliminary estimates indicate that the number further decreased to approximately 1.215 billion in 2023 and is expected to fall to around 1.20 billion by 2025.

According to data disclosed by Euromonitor, the global number of e-cigarette users increased by more than 7 million between 2021 and 2023. By 2023, the total number of users exceeded 62 million. North America accounted for the largest user base, reaching 17.55 million users. Western Europe and Eastern Europe followed, with 14.74 million and 13.12 million users respectively, ranking as the second and third largest markets globally. Preliminary estimates show that the global e-cigarette user population reached approximately 65.86 million in 2024.

According to data released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), disposable e-cigarettes accounted for more than 55% of total e-cigarette usage in the United States from 2022 to 2024. In 2024, the proportion of disposable e-cigarette users stood at 55.6%, representing a decline of 5.1 percentage points compared with 2023.
